Hello,
This issue of Joshua’s Journal has an environmental focus and I think there’s something for everyone in the offering of articles and in the new books for sale. You may not agree with everything I write—in that case please send me your thoughts.
1) Carbon Tax Tribulation
In Australia we have a prime minister promoting a carbon tax she swore she’d never introduce. If you look into the carbon tax issue, you'll see that it’s basically about wealth distribution or the government’s socialist agenda.
It doesn’t encourage Australians to work harder and earn more in order to reap the benefits of their effort. I am all for preserving the environment, as you will see in the article below about turtles, however this carbon tax is not about the environment. The carbon tax will make no difference to pollution, for example.
I think it’s best if private enterprise is encouraged by government to lead the way in controlling emissions through self-discipline and constructive policy, created from within company structures and polices and not forced on them by politicians going beyond their role in society.

2) Turtles in Peril
A third of turtles that die in Australia’s Moreton Bay area, do so because of consuming human waste or becoming entangled in rubbish. (ABC Radio Australia News) When we are careless with rubbish like plastic bags, cling wrap and other plastics, these items easily blow off the land into rivers and the ocean. Turtles mistake these items for jellyfish, their natural prey, but ingesting plastics can cause malabsorption and intestinal blockage. (Wikipedia) If you want to do something to help turtles, please be mindful with rubbish when out and about. You might consider donating to The Australian Freshwater Turtle Conservation & Research Association or to relevant projects of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Australia.
Joshua Books has just launched a new book that helps children understand the danger to turtles posed by human rubbish: Timmy Turtle’s Dangerous Day by David Searle. Read more online or order a copy. Awareness is part of the conservation battle.

Tim Flannery’s predictions about climate change
(From The Herald Sun)
It pays to check out Tim Flannery’s predictions about climate change. At the beginning of the year he was hired by the Gillard Government to scare us stupid, and I can't think of a better man for the job. This Alarmist of the Year is worth every bit of the $180,000 salary he'll get as part-time chairman of the Government's new Climate Commission. His job is simple: to advise us that we really, truly have to accept, say, the new tax on carbon dioxide emissions that this Government threatens to impose. This kind of work is just up the dark alley of Flannery, author of The Weather Makers, that bible of booga booga.
